BEHOLD, THE PERIGEE SUPERMOON!
A dramatic supermoon will grace the skies this evening, the largest and brightest full moon of the year! According to NASA, "a supermoon occurs when the moon hits its full phase while also making its closest approach to Earth for the month, called a perigee." Appearing 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter, the moon will be within 221,802 miles of Earth — its closest approach of the year."

Other names for this month’s celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon, because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn.
